Our Character, The 3rd

Be prepared to get emotional as we spend time with our friend the 3rd. We'll get to learn a song about this polarizing character and play the pitch game we introduced in the last segment with both major and minor 3rd intervals.

Singing About Our Major 3rd:

1-3-3-1… I’m smiling as I look at the sun (never look directly at the sun)

1-3-3-1… The mood is light, I’m having some fun

Singing About Our Minor 3rd:

1-3-3-1... It’s been awhile since I’ve seen the sun

1-3-3-1… So sad and feeling undone

How to use the supplemental content:

Download, play, sing along with, and learn each jingle associated with this character. Make sure you commit the lyrics to memory as well. These songs will serve as tools that you'll use consciously and unconsciously to hear intervals in real-world musical contexts. And...

You get to play the same game we played in the video demonstration! Download the included MP3 in the supplemental content and you'll be presented with a note and asked to think of or sing an interval above that note. Get that note in your head, follow the count off, and sing or play your note along with the surprise chord.

Before moving on to the next section of the course, use with the guided practice below to test your knowledge!
