Harmonizing in 4ths
4ths are tricky indeed... Especially when you start building them off of scale degrees other than the good old familiar "1". As with 3rds, we'll start out at the keyboard to get a visual on what's going on. We'll find out where that Augmented 4th lives within the harmony of the major scale and we'll sequence straight up and down over a drone using our voices.
Ascending: 1-4-2-5-3-6-4-7-5-8-6-9-7-3-8
Descending: 8-5-7-4-6-3-5-2-4-1-3-7-2-6-1
How to use the supplemental content:
The "Sequence" MP3 files contain a drone and a moderate tempo established by a metronome along with a guide sequence. These are available in multiple keys for your practicing enjoyment. Start out by singing along with the key that is most comfortable and then move to other keys for an added challenge.
The "Drone" MP3 files are simply the "1" for you to use as a reference as you practice the sequence on your own. There is no tempo constant so you can feel free to move and meander around at your own pace as also demonstrated in the lesson.
All files are downloadable and can be easily transferred to a mobile device for practicing "on the go".
